Strong Eskişehir Against Climate Change Project, implemented in collaboration with Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and TEMA Foundation, aims to increase the city’s resistance to climate change. The project is financed by the European Union, implemented within the scope of the Civil Participation Project, led by the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs, and implemented by UNDP. The project will strengthen Eskişehir’s capacity to adapt to climate change by developing nature-based solutions.

Within the scope of the project, introduced to the public at a launch meeting held in Eskişehir, disaster risk maps related to climate change will be created and shared on digital platforms, strategies that will guide local governments will be developed, and public participation will be ensured by establishing a Climate Action Center. In addition, awareness events will be organized, and technical training will be offered to local government and NGO representatives.

At the meeting, attended by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Ms. İnci Şentuna, Seyitgazi Mayor Mr. Uğur Tepe, Eskişehir City Council President Mr. Ahmet Kapanoğlu, municipal bureaucrats and representatives of various civil society organizations, the critical role of local governments in climate policies was highlighted.

Speaking at the meeting, TEMA Foundation Environmental Policies and International Relations Department Head Ms. Eylem Tuncaelli emphasized that society should take an active role in combating climate change and stated: “Fighting climate change is no longer just a responsibility of governments or scientists. Every segment of society needs to be involved in this process. Without the effective participation of the public in decision-making mechanisms, it is not possible to achieve a transformation that will contribute to the solution. We believe that with this project, each and every person living in Eskişehir can make a small or large contribution to the fight against climate change. We should not forget that small changes are the beginning of big transformations."

The project aims to create a strong local solidarity model against the climate crisis by increasing climate awareness in Eskişehir. The duration of the project is 12 months.
