About the Project

A. Nihat Gökyiğit Biodiversity Project is a project that started in 2020 with the aim of introducing the concept of biodiversity to the public, explaining its importance and informing them about Turkey's biodiversity. The project aims to contribute to the protection of Turkey's biodiversity.

Scope/Goals

The project primarily aims to raise public awareness on biodiversity, to raise awareness about its importance and to sensitize everyone about the protection of biodiversity. In addition, it is aimed to recognize the biological diversity of Turkey, which has a diversity of species that can be found in a continent although it is not a continent, to raise awareness about its importance and to contribute to its conservation.

Through the project, a general framework proposal will be prepared on what steps citizens, students, institutions, local and central governments should take to protect Turkey's biodiversity.

Activities

Project activities will be carried out under the headings of perception research, communication-awareness activities and training-field activities. In this context, a website will be prepared that will include basic concepts on biodiversity, introduce endemic species in Turkey, provide information on endangered species and serve as a reference source on biodiversity. Seminars and webinars open to the general public and NGOs will be organized with the participation of scientists. Promotional and awareness-raising films will be prepared, and intensive awareness-raising communications will continue on social media and all other communication channels.   Promotion of the concept of biodiversity will be disseminated through TEMA Foundation's representative volunteers operating in 81 provinces. An educational presentation and film will be prepared for children on biodiversity, and awareness will be raised among children. Documentary screenings will be organized for young people and adults.

What Have We Done So Far?

Within the scope of the project's perception research, in-depth interviews on the concept of "biodiversity" were conducted with 31 people between the ages of 25-90 between August 17, 2020 and March 7, 2021. Within the scope of awareness-raising activities, promotional films asking the question #FarkındaMıyız? were prepared and shared with the public.
