Climate Change Education and Awareness Project, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education and TEMA Foundation, aims to raise awareness of children and adults about climate and climate change.
Within the scope of the Climate Change Education and Awareness Project, educational activities for children at primary, middle and high school levels and awareness activities designed for youth and adults are carried out. The activities aim to raise awareness on climate change among children, youth and adults.
As part of face-to-face activities at schools, educational content has been developed for 3rd and 4th grade primary school students, secondary school students, and high school students. These materials are designed to raise awareness on topics such as the seasons, climate, the causes and consequences of climate change, the impact of human activities on nature and practical solutions that can be applied in daily life. All content has been tailored to the developmental characteristics of each age group. The content is supported by interactive presentations, educational films, and a specially developed card game for primary school students titled "Protect the Climate."
Launched in 2023, the Climate TEMA Education Portal (www.iklimtema.org) is the first of its kind in Türkiye in the field of climate change education. Tailored to the developmental characteristics of children, the portal was developed to enable teachers to easily access educational content on climate change. It offers a rich variety of educational materials and resources including activity suggestions, educational films, presentations, posters, e-books, and expert articles to teachers across all 81 provinces in Türkiye. All pre-primary, primary, secondary, and high school teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education can subscribe to and use the portal.
Within the scope of the project's awareness-raising activities, climate change presentations, documentary screenings and subsequent climate talks are organized for young people and adults. With these activities, it is aimed for young people and adults to learn about climate change, gain awareness of sustainable living, comprehend the cause-and-effect relationship on climate change and think about what they can do to protect the climate.
In the first half of 2023, approximately 2,700 children were reached in 27 provinces at the secondary school level; in the second half of 2023, approximately 5,100 children were reached in 39 provinces at the primary school level, and approximately 2,400 children were reached in 29 provinces at the secondary school level.
Approximately 50,250 children were reached in 2023 with the Climate TEMA Education Portal, which is the first of its kind in Türkiye regarding climate change education.
