Duration of the Project

December 2023 - December 2025

Scope and Objectives of the Project

As the TEMA Foundation, with the financial support of the European Union, we initiated the ''Masters of Drought'' project aiming to blend climate-resilient traditional land use methods with modern technological methods and contribute to work in this field by transferring knowledge to young farmers.

The main objective of our project, which started on December 18, 2023, is to bring together sustainable land use methods learned from experienced farmers aged 70+ years of age with modern technological capabilities and transfer them to young farmers aged between 20-40 years old, and to enhance the capacities of young farmers to implement sustainable land use methods.

Within the scope of the project, field visits will be organized to the Karapınar, Ereğli, and Beyşehir regions of Konya province to meet with farmers 70+ years of age, referred to as ''Masters of Drought'' where traditional land use methods learned through oral history but not yet implemented will be recorded. Based on these interviews and field visits, a handbook named ''Traditional Land Use Practices'' will be prepared. In the next phase, focus group studies will be conducted with young farmers living in the same regions to identify their needs.

During the project, an online education platform will be established with sets of training materials blending modern methods with traditional methods learned from the field, under the leadership of expert academics. A guide featuring practical applications of traditional land use methods will also be among the project's outputs. Additionally, short documentaries focusing on dry cereal cultivation, vegetable cultivation, fruit cultivation, and animal breeding will be produced with the ''Masters of Drought''. In the final phase of the project, workshops and closing meetings will be organized to disseminate the project outputs and share implementation examples with relevant decision-makers.
