Scope/Goals

The aim of the project is to contribute to the 2008-2012 Afforestation Campaign of the abolished Ministry of Environment and Forestry, particularly in combating erosion, by planting 700 thousand saplings on a total area of 490 hectares with the planting of 100 thousand saplings on an average of 70 hectares in each province in seven provinces to be selected to represent each geographical region of Turkey, and to contribute to the 2008-2012 Afforestation Campaign of the abolished Ministry of Environment and Forestry and to increase the forest assets of Turkey by carrying out maintenance and protection works of the planted saplings for three years with the contributions of Koç Holding and the General Directorate of Forestry (abolished General Directorate of Afforestation).

Activities Realized in the Project

In the project, which was initiated in 2008 with the contributions of KOÇ Holding in cooperation with TEMA Foundation and the General Directorate of Forestry, 7 provinces representing each geographical region were identified and activities were carried out in Gaziantep, Giresun, Iğdır, İzmir, Karaman, Mersin and Tekirdağ. In the project, 1,084,200 saplings were planted on a total area of 786 hectares, exceeding the target in all areas.

In the project areas where maintenance work was also carried out for three years, the success rate at the end of the third year was 81%.
